My Musical Story
I have always enjoyed music. In elementary school I studied the tenor saxophone and baritone saxophone. In elementary school I also took up playing the guitar. My steel-string acoustic guitar (named “Blue”) that I acquired around this time has been my musical life-line.
During my teenage years and in my early 20s, music took a side note to my mathematical studies. As I finished my Master of Science degree in mathematics, I noticed that my musical creativity that was so abundant in my childhood was returning. It was time to invest more time into music. I acquired the moniker Knobb at the beginning of 2008 while searching for a memorable, yet humorously self-deprecating name for my music projects. I was also accepted into the Simon Fraser University’s computer science graduate program to study computer music around this time. Due to lack of any guaranteed funding, I declined the offer and started on a career as a web developer. This side-tracked my plans for starting to work on music again & Knobb.ca lay as a space holder and nothing else.
Enter EarPractice.com
Recently, I started a new project with my good friend Geoff Peters of the Geoff Peters Trio to create musical ear training videos on EarPractice.com. You can follow EarPractice on Twitter and on YouTube. Geoff blogs about jazz over at Jazz Piano Cafe. Producing the first EarPractice video on identifying chords and my desire to do a better job with the free audio and sample resource created as part of my work with Two Brained helped get me motivated to do something with Knobb.ca once again.
