I was just browsing through my browser bookmarks and came across SoundSnap.com. Since originally bookmarking the site, the service has gone commercial “in order to pay back our users.”1 However, as a normal member you can still get 5 royalty-free sound effects and loops per month that you can use without attribution. To download more content per month, you will have to pay to get a pro membership.
If you are a pro sound designer, submitting content to the site may be a way to help monetize your work. However, they claim that upwards of 70% of submissions are rejected.2 So you should make sure you read their contribution guidelines and only submit work of excellent quality.
Anyway, Soundsnap.com is another resource you can check out for samples, sound effects, etc., for free use in your music, video, and sound design projects. Of course, you can download as many free audio assets from sonic.twobrained.com – my free sound effect, sample, loop, and music site, brought to you by the software and new media company I co-founded Two Brained.
